photoblog image U kill my brother, U die

U kill my brother, U die

God I wish I had used a flash, this shot would have been stronger. DAMMIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is a friend of mine, Matt Simpson, and he does Battodo (batto = quick draw and cut with the sword, do = path or practice) Basically he could take my head off before I blink (and I blink really fast), good thing we are friends huh. Anyway I was round his house a few weeks ago and off course I made him bring out his swords and you know what happened next ………………… yeap that's right SNAP SNAP SNAP.

I really wish I had used a flash for this shot, but there you go, can't always get it right.

Anyway hope my peeps like this shot (I can already hear the technical guys sharpening their claws).

Another shot of Matt tomorrow

lol. I agree with you, It's notas sharp as it should have been and that itself could be good or bad depending on one's perspective. Nice though

Not sharp but nice and clean.
Flash? Not convinced it's necessary here, but I'm not adept with it yet so I avoid it in favour of natural light whenever I can.

The movement in the sword is desirable; in fact I think for an action shot, the whole thing could stand a lot more movement to show the power and speed of the "do".
Nice feeling of motion & power.
I am not sure I would want to meet your friend ;-)
I like the composition. I wish there were a little more going on in the left part of the image. The title is solid. Regards.

Something remind me the movie star wars. great
Battado is cool! But why would anyone learn such a dangerous art?

I like it, the expression on his face and you really cought the motion wink
I guess this is the friend you gonna call if someone messes with you wink
When you say you wish you had used a flash, did you intend to just shoot normally or like use a slow sync effect? I like how you captured the movement in his sword.

I like the movement of the sword, and the highlight behind him. Good job.
I like it, but it could be sharper
i like it. the lack of sharpness enhances the motion inherent in the shot. though i can't make up my mind on the highlight around his head....

Ninja Talk:

"Learn to master your envirnoment smile , the wall, the shadows and maybe the floor could have all been used to bring life into this image."

"Make no limitations....your LIMITATION!" Skee hast spoketh!
sk: Honest to God I really don't know what U are talking about. Yes it really is Ninja talk, consider this though, I AM NOT A NINJA LOL. I've told U before Remi, explain it to me, we are not on the same level in photography

I like it without a flash. The face is sharp, which is important for this shot, and the sword is blurred, which shows powerful movement.
I guess I am going to be in the minority here! I like the concept but have some comments.

I am not clever enough to be able to judge the benefit of flash but the lighting/tones look ok to me.
On a down side, his expression doesn't looks menacing and aggressive enough considering the activity therefore it loses some reality for me. Fair enough though as I don't know him and therefore how he looks when not swinging a sword!
The background looks strange, whilst his lower half (legs and waist) appear connected to his surroundings his upper half look detached as if it were a cut out?

I think it's a nearly for me, something lacking overall that I can't quite put my finger on. However, if I met the subject I'd say it was amazing wink
I like the focus on his face and the hint of movement in the sword. If there were a bit more blur on the sword, I might be even more afraid of your friend.
I think the lack of flash adds to the image otherwise it would have been sharp against a very bland background. The movement gives the image deeper qualities.
This is good! I think a flash would have added value too. But the guys emotion has been captured very well!
You have caught the exact moment that shows the tension of the fight.

I like it,The motion blur on the sword is a nice touch and the radial gradient from his head gives the whole image a feeling of completeness.Good job!
It would not have been nearly as good with a flash. I like it the way it is!!!
