SM217 at sea

I didn't have anything to put up but something from good ol Brighton, so this one is for U Mr Skee LOL. Edge of boat + sky = image, geez I'm really running out of ideas.

Anyway I hope somebody likes this shot. If you don't like it, please tell me how U think I could improve it.

Ok since people asked for it, heres the colour version http://asiko.shutterchance.com/photoblog/1117.htm

It's different. I'm wishing that the base of the boat (the part that kisses the sea) should be visible in the shot! But it's not. sad
sk: oops, it actually was on land, maybe i should have included it, thanx.

I like the sky that seems like it can't decide whether it's gonna be dark or bright. nice perspective.
sk: thanx Sinem, i put up a colour version, check it out

Agreeing with previous two posts if that were possible! I think the sky is the most powerful thing in this shot and it would have worked better (for me anyway) in colour especially with that shaft of sunlight and sepia dulls it somewhat so that the end result is that I don't know where my focus should be. Still, I like the shot. Very cinematic, like a still from a film. Reminds me of truman show.
sk: yea the sky is the most powerful thing here. check out the colour version, better?

Ade, I'm not feeling this pic at all to be honest... for the first time in a long time, I look at a picture and think... nothing! It's eveident that sometimes u haven't had much to put up, so u dig into reserves or ur brighton shots - whether or not they are up to ur recently established high standard - I think u are far mor better than this shot suggests, and I think u know so... so don't sell urself short!

Composition: I think that's where my main qulams lies - The edge of the boat does/adds nothing to this shot for me... no story, nothing.

I do like the sky... u've obviously gained mastery over sky shots - it's nice... but I just feel kinda disapponted with the composition as I expect a heck of a lot more from u...

Am I being too harsh? I hope u don't think so... just speaking my thots on this...

And maybe I just haven't unearthed what this shot is supposed to be telling (in which case I think that's a prblem as well!), so let me know...

Holla @ ur boy.

Lovely composition. I like the warm tones of sepia. Good shot though perhaps colour may have been even more effective
sk: thanx Nkem, i've put a colour version up, check it out

I like it, I like it a lot. That shaft of sunlight looks like it is pulling this boat. Very powerful image. But.... adding the waterline would have improved this shot.
sk: yea i wish i had added the waterline. i put up a colour version, do u prefer?

I don't love it - just like it.The sky is great, the lighting is too but I feel the boat doesn't really strike enough of a contrast with it.
sk: thanx, i put up the colour version, check it out

I think the colours were good, I'm wondering why you chose to use sepia... Compositionally it is rather plain, the only thing it's got going for it is the shaft of light seems to be shining on the front on the boat.
sk: hmmmmmm.......... interesting, thanks for the advice Veloran

Great. For me the sepia tone makes stronger the clouds. So i prefer the b/w one.

I LIKEY, form a simple shot we have got this beauty, enough of the yardy yard about how including the sea or land into the image would/could/may have enhanced the image.

Lets judge waht we see here and boy am I double impressed when I look at the image again.

The framing of the boat is for me spot on, the colour tones work for the image.

Looking at the colour version there is not much to chose from (glad you did the crop on the right though) smile The ray of light really seems to be drawing the boat, drawing it to where? Well thats up to the imagination of the viewer. JOB DONE BY PHOTOGRAPHER.

Good capture matey.

sk: wait a minute whats going on here? the two people that I thot would destroy aren't, hmmmmm......... I'm in the twilight zone again LOL. thanx Mr Subster

like the tone of the pic
One of my personal favourites from you but that is purely because I favour this type of composition. You have a lot of skill to be able to execute such a wide range of images.

p.s. a smidgen of ground may help balance this and help the viewer understand it.

I think it has a moody feel to it. I like it.
Nice one!
I feel much like you these days. I've got to get that inspiration wheel a movin'. I also just need to get out there! I'm going to try and get some interior shots taken soon.

I like this shot. I like the sepia effect; the big sky is very nice here. It works.

I prefers the sepia version!! It would be great if some brids are flying at the top right hand coner, could have done a photomontage if you got some pictures of flying birds. Hehe~
very nice! i like the sun how comes through the clouds!

I like the composition a lot (I'm a huge fan of negative space). In the sepia version, I wish the boat stood out more, maybe "burn" it darker...something that gives it a little more contrast from the sky.

I thought I wouldn't like the color version before I looked at it, but I liked that as well. The sun ray bordered on looking like a cheesy religious poster but the the color in the boat is nice. very cool.
Beautiful sky! You composed this really well... the aged wood of the boat goes so well with the sky. Nicely done!

The ray of light seem to be guiding the boat. Mysterious picture !
Love the tones.

I like the shot. I would have liked to have seen a bit of calm water and the reflection of the boat and the sky in the water. It would have made a nice contrast to the sky. I think, though, that this version is better than the color version.
