photoblog image Sliced illumination

Sliced illumination

I couldn't get a decent shot for the theme, so I had to dig into my archives for this one. I shot about 50 variations of this shot and nothing worked. Photography.................

This was taken last year in June and was basically done by placing the kiwis on a glass table and then illuminating from below using a table lamp. I tried to repeat this yesterday but I didn't have a glass table, ARRRRGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank God its friday

I love the lighting. Very nice. I like the way the seeds really stand out with the lighting from underneath.
sk: thanx Laurie
Not a great fan of kiwi but the lighting here is on point and you captured the essence of the kiwi very nicely.

Classic shot, the kiwi slice looks great with the lights like that. I'm wondering why some parts of your table looks orange though... Nicely done.
sk: i was amateur back then, wait a minute I'm still an amateur, go figure. the orange cast came from the table lamp used to illuminate from underneath. I hope to redo this shot soon

Great One.

Very nice shot. What took you more time, taking this shot or slicing the Kiwi fruit. Check out a shot of kiwifruit I took

Interesting as I really liked the concept but I couldn't tell where your focus point was? It may just be because it's backlit therefore you don't get the visual clues from brightspots on the seeds to tell that's it is in focus. It probably is but because I can't 'see' the focus it's tricking my eye.

I got found out for my focus today so perhaps I am more critical smile

Cool shot for a hairy fruit with lots of seeds and skin that's way too fiddly to remove to justify it's existence.
sk: funnily enuff I didn't even eat of these cos as u said they are too fiddly, working from home? U EPLs, skank off all the time

I definitely love how the colors turned out. Like this one a lot! Maybe you could have concentrated more on one single slice, but that also could have made it less interesting too.

Man, you have to go a long way down to leave a comment on some people's work! Must be popular - and with good reason.

I like this. It's not perfect (colours already mentioned from the lamp) but it's not far off. The concept is a good 'un; it's the sort of thing you might see in food magazines. It also reminds me that you can contrive a shot. You don't, chunter, have to wait until you see a naturally occurring scene. Go create one!
Just had thought...having looked through today's postings on the blogs...the next theme should be "excuses".
